Cushman (Charlotte) is born in the North End.

Charlotte Cushman grows up at 25 Parmenter Street, studies music, and joins a Boston opera company in 1825. She moves with her family to Charlestown in 1828, makes her stage debut in 1835, and begins touring the U.S. in 1836 and England in 1845. Performing both male and female Shakespearian roles, Cushman becomes one of the most popular actresses of her era. She relocates to Rome, but returns to the U.S. to tour in 1849-1852, then embarks on a “farewell tour” that lasts from 1857 until 1875.* Cushing dies in Boston on February 17, 1876, and is buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery.
